Vietnam National Strategy for Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases 2015-2025

A Vietnamese government strategy developed in 2014 and adopted to run from 2015 to 2025, aimed at preventing and controlling the country's four leading noncommunicable disease groups: cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma. The National Strategy on Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases sets numerical targets for 2025 measured against a 2015 baseline, including cutting the premature death rate from noncommunicable disease by 20 percent, holding adult hypertension prevalence below 30 percent, cutting tobacco use by 30 percent and harmful alcohol use by 10 percent among adults, keeping adult diabetes prevalence below 8 percent, and raising public awareness of noncommunicable disease and its prevention to roughly 70 percent of adults. Its approach combines public communication, population screening and early detection, treatment and case management, and building out the country's noncommunicable disease service network and health workforce capacity to carry the strategy's other goals.
