A Nigerian federal body first established in February 2000 as the National Action Committee on AIDS to coordinate the country's response to its HIV epidemic, before an enabling act passed in May 2007 transformed it into a full agency, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS. NACA is responsible for planning and coordinating the activities of Nigeria's many sectors involved in the national HIV response, engaging every tier of government on prevention, care and support, advocating for HIV programming to be mainstreamed across all parts of society, and formulating national policies and guidelines aimed at reducing HIV-related illness and death.
