The National STD/AIDS Control Programme (NSACP) is Sri Lanka's Ministry of Health body coordinating the national response to sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS. It provides leadership and technical support to 33 island-wide STD clinics and 21 antiretroviral therapy centers, operates a national HIV and STI laboratory network, and conducts national and subnational surveillance and monitoring, collaborating with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and United Nations agencies. Sri Lanka recorded its first HIV/AIDS case in 1987 and its first indigenous transmission in 1989, and the programme's priority has remained prevention given the country's continued low HIV prevalence.
