Unitaid

Unitaid is a global health initiative, founded in 2006 by Brazil, Chile, France, Norway and the United Kingdom and hosted by the World Health Organization in Geneva, that works with partners to bring about innovations to prevent, diagnose and treat major diseases, especially tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS, in low- and middle-income countries. It funds research and development of new drugs, diagnostics and disease-prevention tools, helps generate the data that supports medical treatment guidelines, and works to make affordable generic medicines available where they are needed most, financed in large part through an airline ticket levy applied in a number of countries.
