Cameroon National AIDS Control Committee

The Cameroonian government body responsible for coordinating and managing the country's National AIDS Control Program throughout its territory, working alongside national administrations and international partners. Cameroon's organized response to the epidemic dates to 1986 with the creation of the National AIDS Control Program itself, and the National AIDS Control Committee, known by its French acronym CNLS, was established in 1998 specifically to coordinate, monitor and manage that program, providing a national framework for interventions and broadening the country's overall response to the epidemic. Cameroon was estimated to be home to just over 480,000 people living with HIV in 2022 with about 9,900 new cases recorded that year, and the country has posted a roughly 50 percent decline in HIV prevalence among people aged 15 to 64 over 14 years, from 5.4 percent in 2004 to 4.3 percent in 2011 and 2.7 percent in 2018, progress the committee and national officials frame as part of a vision of ending AIDS as a threat to public health by 2030.
