World Immunization Week is a World Health Organization global public health campaign, endorsed by the World Health Assembly in May 2012 and first observed simultaneously across countries that same year, held each year in the last week of April to raise awareness of and increase rates of immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases. It highlights that vaccines can protect against twenty five different infectious agents or diseases from infancy to old age, including diphtheria, measles, pertussis, polio and tetanus, and encourages worldwide vaccination coverage for people of all ages.
