The division of Uganda's Ministry of Health responsible for steering the country's response to malaria, which remains one of Uganda's most serious public health burdens; the country recorded nearly 11 million cases in 2024 and ranks among the three worst affected in Africa. The National Malaria Control Division, abbreviated NMCD, states its vision as a malaria-free Uganda and its mission as providing quality-assured malaria prevention and treatment services to the whole population, and it provides the common framework through which government, development partners, the private sector and other stakeholders scale up evidence-based interventions against the disease. Its current strategic direction is set by the Malaria Reduction and Elimination Strategic Plan for 2021 to 2025, developed in 2022 as a successor to an earlier 2014 to 2020 strategic plan, and aims to cut malaria infection and illness by half and malaria-related deaths by three-quarters by 2025.
