Action Against Hunger

A global humanitarian nonprofit founded in 1979 by a group of French doctors, scientists and writers, with the Nobel Prize winning physicist Alfred Kastler serving as its first chairman. Action Against Hunger, known in French as Action contre la Faim, works to end world hunger by helping malnourished children and by giving communities access to safe water and sustainable solutions to food insecurity, spanning nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, and emergency response. Its Scientific Committee pioneered F100, a therapeutic milk formula now used widely across the humanitarian sector to treat acute malnutrition, credited with reducing mortality among severely malnourished children to below 5 percent. The organization now operates in 56 countries across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, employing more than 7,000 staff who together serve roughly 28 million people in need each year, coordinated from headquarters in France, Germany, Spain, the United States, Canada, Italy, India and the United Kingdom.
