A German federal action plan adopted in 2008 to bring about lasting improvement in the country's dietary and exercise habits and thereby prevent lifestyle-related disease. Formally titled IN FORM, Germany's national initiative to promote healthy diets and physical activity, the plan treats nutrition and exercise as a single, connected concern rather than two separate problems, and pursues its goals across the everyday settings where people actually live, learn, work and spend their leisure time, including childcare centers, schools, local government, businesses and families, with attention spanning the whole of life, from a child's first thousand days through to improving food and nutrition for older people. Since its adoption, IN FORM has carried out more than 200 individual projects, working across information and education, the quality of communal catering, the everyday promotion of physical activity, and networking, quality assurance and research to support its aims.
