Posyandu, Indonesia's Integrated Health Service Post program, was established nationwide in 1984 through a joint instruction of the Minister of Health, the head of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board, and the Minister of Home Affairs, which unified several community health activities into a single community-based structure. Posyandu posts, staffed largely by community health worker cadres and linked to the country's puskesmas community health centers, deliver five core services: family planning, maternal and child health, immunization, child nutrition programs, and diarrhea management, aiming above all to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
