IntraHealth International

A nonprofit organization based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, dedicated to working with developing countries to strengthen their public health capabilities, originally established in 1979 as a program of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's medical school before becoming an independent nongovernmental organization in 2003. IntraHealth International organizes its work around five areas, developing a sustainable health workforce, strengthening primary health care providers, preventing and treating HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, improving maternal, neonatal and children's health, and increasing access to family planning. The organization has worked in more than 50 countries and remains active in 28, and it developed the iHRIS Suite, an open-source software system used to track and manage health workers, reflecting its particular focus on the health workforce itself as the foundation of a functioning primary health care system.
