The National Health Mission is an Indian government program launched in 2013 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, consolidating the National Rural Health Mission, established in 2005, together with the newly created National Urban Health Mission as its two sub-missions. It aims to achieve universal access to equitable, affordable and quality health care that is accountable and responsive to the needs of India's rural and urban populations, with particular focus on underserved areas, and organizes its work around health system strengthening for reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health alongside the control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
