Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme

Tuberculosis Control Program

India's national tuberculosis control programme, launched in 1997 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, adopting the World Health Organization's DOTS strategy nationwide after pilot testing found it more effective than India's earlier National Tuberculosis Programme. It provides free diagnosis and treatment through government health facilities, with treatment observed by health workers or trained community volunteers. Treatment success rates rose to above 85 percent by the 2010s under the revised approach. India nonetheless continues to carry the world's largest tuberculosis burden by absolute case count, and the programme was rebranded the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme in 2020, alongside a government target of eliminating tuberculosis in India by 2025, five years ahead of the global Sustainable Development Goal target.

The program-kind fact itself stays on the program unchanged.
