Bangladesh's national nutrition programme, built on the earlier Bangladesh Integrated Nutrition Project, which had itself covered about a quarter of the population across 110 upazilas, before the National Nutrition Project was folded into the government's wider Health, Nutrition and Population Sector Program in 2006 after implementation delays of about two years. A further operational plan for National Nutrition Services was approved in 2011 under the Health, Population and Nutrition Sector Development Programme covering 2011 to 2016, mainstreaming nutrition interventions directly into Bangladesh's existing health system from July 2011 onward rather than running them as a separate parallel project. A later National Nutrition Programme document set the goal of ending hunger by 2030 in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, built around an integrated strategy linking nutrition improvement to agriculture, livestock and fisheries interventions alongside direct health-sector nutrition services.
