The Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) is a loose network of organizations, coordinated by the German development agency GIZ on behalf of Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, that has worked since 2007 toward sustainable sanitation worldwide. It formed a year ahead of the United Nations International Year of Sanitation in 2008 to give aligned organizations a joint label for their sanitation activities, and it promotes sanitation systems that are economically viable, socially acceptable, and protective of health, the environment and natural resources, in support of Sustainable Development Goal 6.
