MPOWER

Chronic Disease Prevention Program

MPOWER is a World Health Organization policy package, launched in New York City on 7 February 2008, that helps countries implement the tobacco-demand-reduction measures called for by the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. Its six components are to monitor tobacco use and prevention policies, protect people from tobacco smoke, offer help to quit tobacco use, warn about the dangers of tobacco, enforce bans on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship, and raise taxes on tobacco, and it has become the internationally recognized summary of essential tobacco-control strategy.
