World Hepatitis Day, observed on 28 July each year, is a World Health Organization campaign, run jointly with the World Hepatitis Alliance, that raises global awareness of viral hepatitis A, B, C, D and E and pushes for their prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Hepatitis causes acute and chronic liver disease that kills an estimated 1.34 million people worldwide each year, and the day's programming works to increase hepatitis B vaccine coverage and strengthen screening and control measures. First marked in 2008 on 19 May by the World Hepatitis Alliance, it moved to its current July date in 2010 following a World Health Assembly resolution.
