Every Woman Every Child

A global movement launched by the United Nations Secretary-General in September 2010 to mobilize and intensify action by governments, multilateral institutions, the private sector and civil society against the major health challenges facing women, children and adolescents worldwide. Every Woman Every Child put into action the original Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health and now carries forward its 2016 to 2030 successor, the Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health, a roadmap built around the three goals of helping women, children and adolescents survive, thrive and transform, and grounded in the guiding principles of country leadership, human rights, community ownership and accountability, with the aim of ending all preventable deaths among women, children and adolescents, including stillbirths, within a generation. Progress reports issued under the movement recorded reductions of 49 percent in child mortality and 45 percent in maternal mortality between 1990 and 2013, preventing an estimated 2.4 million deaths, even as a 2022 progress report warned that conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change were together eroding further gains in women's and children's health.
