Malaria Eradication Scientific Alliance

The Malaria Eradication Scientific Alliance, or MESA, is an organization founded on research by the Malaria Eradication Research Agenda, known as malERA, a project identifying the steps needed to eradicate malaria that was created after a 2007 malaria forum hosted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. MalERA launched in 2008 and published its findings in PLoS Medicine in 2011, and MESA formed in 2012 to continue malERA's goals through further research and development, with its secretariat based at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health. MESA aims to advance the science of malaria eradication by providing the research community with a dedicated hub to track research, share resources and showcase elimination programs, pioneering new ideas, managing knowledge and monitoring progress across a network the organization describes as including 740 institutions in 94 countries, among them Institut Pasteur, Imperial College London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the University of California San Francisco, the World Health Organization, Malaria Consortium and the Clinton Health Access Initiative.
