Eliminate Yellow Fever Epidemics Strategy

A ten-year global strategy covering 2017 to 2026, developed jointly by the World Health Organization, Gavi the Vaccine Alliance and UNICEF after a severe 2016 yellow fever outbreak that began in Angola and spread through urban transmission to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and to travelers reaching Asia. The Eliminate Yellow Fever Epidemics, or EYE, strategy set three objectives: protecting at-risk populations, preventing international spread of the disease, and containing outbreaks quickly once they occur, and it targets forty countries assessed to carry high outbreak risk, most of them in Africa. Since the strategy's launch more than 226 million additional people in Africa have received the single-dose yellow fever vaccine that the partners describe as providing lifelong protection, and a mid-term evaluation assessed the strategy's progress at its midpoint ahead of its planned 2026 conclusion.
