Zambia National Malaria Elimination Programme

Zambia's national program against malaria, operating since the Roll Back Malaria partnership's launch in the country in 2000 brought a sharp increase in programme partners and in the financial, technical and human resources available for malaria control. On World Malaria Day, April 25, 2017, the Zambian government launched its National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan for 2017 to 2021 and renamed what had been the National Malaria Control Centre as the National Malaria Elimination Centre, marking a formal strategic shift from malaria control toward elimination. The program's approach has continued to evolve through a further National Malaria Strategic Plan covering 2022 to 2026, aiming to reduce malaria-related illness and death nationally while pursuing elimination in specific sub-national areas, and in 2019 Zambia established the Zambia End Malaria Council and Fund, the first such national End Malaria Council anywhere.
