Helen Keller International

An American nonprofit organization founded in 1915 by Helen Keller herself together with businessman George A. Kessler, working to combat the causes and consequences of blindness and malnutrition around the world. Helen Keller International states its mission as saving the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, and it organizes its work across three connected domains, eye health, broader healthcare, and nutrition. On the eye health side the organization addresses leading causes of preventable blindness including cataracts, trachoma and onchocerciasis, and treats refractive errors, while its nutrition programs cover vitamin A supplementation, micronutrient fortification of staple foods, dietary diversification and community gardening initiatives meant to improve what families actually eat. As of 2024 the organization operates across 20 countries in Africa, Asia and the United States, and it reports that its programs benefit millions of children and families every year.
