A global partnership, hosted by UNICEF, that brings together national governments, donor agencies, civil society organizations, utilities, regulators, research institutions and the private sector to coordinate political leadership and action toward universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene. Founded in 2009, Sanitation and Water for All, abbreviated SWA, now counts more than 400 partners working to support the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 6, improving accountability and the effective use of scarce resources rather than funding or implementing projects directly. Its work places particular emphasis on reaching vulnerable populations, especially women and girls, treating strong governance and sustained political commitment, rather than technology alone, as the key barrier standing between the world and adequate, equitable sanitation.
