The African Leaders Malaria Alliance, known as ALMA, is an intergovernmental organization of African heads of state and government dedicated to ending malaria deaths across the continent. It became operational on 23 September 2009 during the 64th United Nations General Assembly, under the leadership of Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete. ALMA brings together African heads of state to hold each other accountable for progress against malaria, tracking country-level indicators and using scorecards to monitor performance toward continental malaria goals.
