National TB Elimination Program (India)

The National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, known by the initials NTEP, is the public health initiative of the Government of India that organizes the country's anti-tuberculosis efforts, launched in 2020 as a renamed successor to the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme, which had operated from 1997 to 2020 and itself built on an original National TB Programme established in 1962. Operating as a component of India's National Health Mission, NTEP offers cost-free tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment nationwide and pursues the goal of a TB free India through four strategic pillars described as prevent, detect, treat and build, aimed at universal coverage and social protection. The programme runs through a hierarchical four-level structure, the Central TB Division at the national level, State TB Cells, District TB Offices, and Tuberculosis Units at the sub-district level, coordinating diagnostic services, treatment protocols and public-private partnerships across India's healthcare system.
