Nepal's national program for tuberculosis control, which adopted the Directly Observed Treatment Short Course strategy following the World Health Organization's 1995 recommendation that DOTS was among the most cost-effective tuberculosis control strategies available. The programme operates through a network of roughly 4,323 TB treatment centers across the country, supported by 624 registered microscopy centers, while the National TB Reference Laboratories, the National Tuberculosis Centre and GENETUP provide culture and drug-susceptibility testing services. A national TB prevalence survey found approximately 69,000 people developed tuberculosis in Nepal in 2018 alone, with roughly 117,000 people living with the disease, and the programme's strategic goals for 2016 through 2021 targeted diagnosing 100 percent of multidrug-resistant TB cases and successfully treating at least 75 percent of them, even as tuberculosis continued to claim an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 lives in Nepal each year.

Entity-backed identity for the program-kind enum value this public health program already carries, resolved to a health practice by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The program-kind fact itself stays on the program unchanged.
