Tanzania National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme

Tanzania's National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme, NTLP, was established by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and today sits within the ministry's Head of Programs and Health System Strengthening division, charged with preventing and controlling tuberculosis and leprosy in the country to the point that neither remains a major public health concern. The programme works with a range of international and local development partners, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States Agency for International Development, the World Health Organization and the German Leprosy and TB Relief Association, who together provide much of its financing. NTLP has worked through a series of national strategic plans, reviewing its fourth National Tuberculosis Strategic Plan, covering 2009 to 2015, at a formal review launched in Dar es Salaam on February 17, 2014, and it has since developed a sixth National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis and Leprosy covering 2020 to 2025.
