Thailand's National Tuberculosis Programme has run as part of the country's provincial general health services since 1967, when BCG vaccination was introduced alongside it, with case-finding and chemotherapy services expanding as district-level hospitals were established from the late 1970s. Facing a worsening tuberculosis situation, the programme adopted the World Health Organization's Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course strategy in 1996. In 2021 Thailand still reported roughly 103,000 tuberculosis cases, an incidence of about 143 per 100,000 people, while the programme's treatment success rate from 2014 to 2021 ranged from about 81.5 to 86.3 percent.
