The Wikipedia article on fecal sludge management notes the term septage has been used in the United States since at least 1992 and that the UN declared 2008 the Year of Sanitation, but neither date marks fecal sludge management's own origin as a named practice.
What would resolve this A source dating when fecal sludge management was first named and adopted as a distinct sanitation practice, distinct from the general practice of onsite sanitation, would resolve this.
