Colombia's National Malaria Control Programme carries out the country's malaria prevention and treatment activities, focused on early diagnosis and prompt treatment, distribution of long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets, and community education. Colombia pursued a national Malaria Eradication Campaign beginning in the 1950s, which achieved marked control in areas of medium and low transmission intensity without eliminating the disease nationwide. The programme now works toward a national plan to eliminate malaria from Colombia by 2031, beginning with a model of detection, treatment, investigation and response in the country's remaining transmission areas.
