COVID-19 Vaccination in the United States

The United States COVID-19 vaccination campaign began after the Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on December 10, 2020, with mass vaccination starting four days later; the Moderna vaccine followed on December 17, 2020, and the Janssen vaccine on February 27, 2021. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention organized the campaign across both the Trump and Biden administrations, coordinating distribution to state and local health departments and expanding eligibility in phases from health workers and the elderly to the general public. By August 17, 2022, more than 262 million people, seventy-nine percent of the population, had received at least one dose, and more than 223 million people, sixty-seven percent, were fully vaccinated.
