A global strategy against cholera launched in October 2017 by the Global Task Force on Cholera Control, a partnership of more than fifty United Nations agencies, international organizations, academic institutions and nongovernmental organizations that supports cholera-affected countries. Ending Cholera: A Global Roadmap to 2030 set the goal of reducing cholera deaths worldwide by 90 percent and eliminating transmission in at least twenty countries by 2030, working from the observation that most cholera cases occur in predictable, recurring hotspots. Its strategy rests on three pillars: early detection of and rapid response to outbreaks, a multisectoral push to prevent transmission in hotspot areas through improved water, sanitation and hygiene alongside oral cholera vaccination, and an effective mechanism for coordinating technical support, funding and partnership at both the country and global level.
