Haiti's Agents de Sante Communautaire Polyvalents (ASCP) program, formally established in 2015 by the Ministry of Public Health and Population, trains multi-skilled community health agents to promote health, deliver preventive and basic curative services, and mobilize communities, working under the supervision of a multi-skilled nurse and a team leader nurse as part of a broader family health team. Developed using training manuals published in 2011 and 2012 with support from the health ministries of Cuba and Brazil under post-earthquake reconstruction commitments, the program aims for one ASCP per 1,000 inhabitants nationwide, though as of 2017 roughly three-quarters of ASCPs remained donor-funded, raising sustainability concerns.
