Helping Babies Breathe

Helping Babies Breathe is a neonatal resuscitation training program developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics for use in low-resource settings, teaching basic resuscitation skills such as drying and stimulating a newborn, delayed cord clamping, and bag-mask ventilation within the first minute of life if a baby is not breathing. Developed from the work of a Global Implementation Task Force formed in 2006, the curriculum was released in a first edition and, in 2016, a second edition aligned with international resuscitation guidelines. It has since been implemented in more than 80 countries and has trained roughly 500,000 birth attendants, contributing to measurable declines in early newborn deaths and fresh stillbirths.
