The Iodine Global Network (IGN) is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization for the sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency worldwide, working in partnership with major international health organizations and agencies. It traces its origin to 1986, when the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders Global Network (ICCIDD Global Network) held its first meeting in Kathmandu, Nepal; in 2002 a separate body, the Network for Sustained Elimination of Iodine Deficiency, was launched at the United Nations Special Session for Children, and the two organizations merged in 2012. The merged organization adopted the name Iodine Global Network in December 2014, and continues to coordinate global efforts against iodine deficiency.
