The Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation (JMP) is the official United Nations mechanism, run jointly by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, that tracks global progress on drinking water and sanitation. Since 2016 it has monitored countries against Sustainable Development Goal 6, having previously tracked the Millennium Development Goal target to halve, by 2015, the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. The programme is the internationally recognized source of the comparable data that governments, donors and international organizations rely on to measure water, sanitation and hygiene access worldwide.
