One of six bureaus within the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland. The Maternal and Child Health Bureau administers the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant Program, whose authorizing legislation traces back to the Social Security Act of 1935, and the bureau became its own distinct HRSA bureau in 1990. Its stated mission is to improve the physical and mental health, safety and wellbeing of the nation's maternal and child health population, covering women, infants, children, adolescents and their families across the United States.
