Medicines for Malaria Venture, or MMV, is a not-for-profit public-private partnership established as a foundation in Switzerland in 1999 to reduce malaria in disease-endemic countries through the development of antimalarial drugs. Its project portfolio addresses drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum, safety considerations for vulnerable populations including infants under six months and pregnant women, treatment of Plasmodium vivax malaria, management of severe malaria cases, and development of therapies that block disease transmission. MMV also manages the Open Source Malaria initiative, which promotes collaborative research methods and open knowledge-sharing within the scientific community working on the disease.
