The National Stroke Association was a United States nonprofit healthcare organization that operated from 1984 to 2019, based in Centennial, Colorado, devoting its resources entirely to reducing the incidence and impact of stroke, then the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. It delivered education and programs on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and support, including the Careliving online network for stroke caregivers, the iHope webinar series for survivors and caregivers, and the Stroke Advocacy Network connecting survivors and caregivers with elected officials, published stroke management guidelines in the Annals of Neurology in 2006, and, together with the American Heart Association, helped secure the first United States presidential proclamation of May as National Stroke Awareness Month in 1989; in 2019 the organization dissolved and folded its activities into the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association.
