Nigeria National Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition

A Nigerian federal government nutrition plan, approved by the National Council on Nutrition under the chairmanship of the Vice President in January 2021 for the period 2021 to 2025, setting out strategies to improve the nutritional status of Nigerians with particular emphasis on the country's most vulnerable groups. The National Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition set targets including cutting the share of the population suffering malnutrition by half, raising the exclusive breastfeeding rate to 65 percent, and reducing the stunting rate among children under five to 18 percent by 2025, pursued by scaling up nutrition-specific interventions that address malnutrition directly and nutrition-sensitive interventions that address its underlying causes across sectors such as agriculture, water and social protection. The plan describes its purpose as eliminating all forms of malnutrition as a public health problem in Nigeria and contributing to the country's progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals' 2030 nutrition targets.
