Peru's Agentes Comunitarios de Salud (ACS) program comprises more than 35,000 volunteer community health agents registered with the Ministry of Health's health promotion information management platform, who are chosen by their own communities to carry out voluntary health promotion and disease prevention activities alongside health personnel. Law No. 30825, enacted in July 2018, formally strengthened and consolidated the role of community health agents as fundamental actors in Peru's primary health care strategy, making the Ministry of Health, together with regional and local governments, responsible for their ongoing training.
