SIS is Peru's public health insurance program, launched in 2002 to expand access to health services for people living in poverty and extreme poverty by removing financial barriers to care. It operates as a health insurance fund administrator (IAFAS) and covers more than 26.5 million insured members, about 72 percent of Peru's population, including children under five, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups, with free coverage for preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care spanning more than 12,000 conditions.
