Solomon Islands National Malaria Control Programme

Malaria Control Program

The Solomon Islands' national malaria program, run by the country's Ministry of Health and Medical Services, which has shifted its focus over time from intensified control toward progressive elimination, formalized by the government's Malaria Roadmap of Malaria Elimination introduced in 2018. Malaria burden varies sharply by province: earlier surveillance-and-response work in Isabel Province reduced malaria incidence there to 2.6 cases per 1,000 people by 2009, while provinces such as Central Islands and Temotu have continued to report far higher annual parasite incidence rates. The program has drawn on international partnerships, including the Japan-Solomon Islands Malaria Reduction Project run jointly with the Government of Japan and the World Health Organization, combining real-time digital surveillance, case management for Plasmodium vivax infections, targeted indoor residual spraying and locally driven operational research to advance the country toward its elimination goal.

Delivers Practice

Entity-backed identity for the program-kind enum value this public health program already carries, resolved to a health practice by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The program-kind fact itself stays on the program unchanged.
