The Treatment Action Campaign, known as TAC, is a South African HIV/AIDS activist organization co-founded in 1998 by HIV-positive activist Zackie Achmat, with roots in the country's anti-apartheid activism. The organization campaigned for greater access to HIV treatment, using direct action tactics and South Africa's constitutional protections for health care access to compel the South African government to provide antiretroviral medications to its citizens through the public health system.
