WHO Global Vector Control Response 2017-2030

A World Health Organization strategic framework adopted by the World Health Assembly in May 2017 through resolution WHA70.16, built to strengthen the control of disease-carrying insects and other vectors worldwide through increased capacity, improved surveillance, better coordination and integrated action across sectors and diseases, rather than treating each vector-borne disease as its own separate control effort. The response calls on WHO member states to align their own national vector control strategies with a shared model built on four pillars, strengthening collaboration within and across sectors, engaging and mobilizing affected communities, enhancing vector surveillance and monitoring of interventions, and scaling up and integrating vector control tools and approaches, resting on two further foundational elements of building vector control capacity and increasing research and innovation. Development of the framework was coordinated jointly between WHO's Global Malaria Programme and its Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases, reflecting its intent to serve both malaria and the neglected tropical diseases spread by the same or related vectors under one integrated response.
