WHO Road Map for Neglected Tropical Diseases 2021-2030

A World Health Organization strategy document endorsed by the World Health Assembly in November 2020 and published on 28 January 2021, setting the global agenda for tackling neglected tropical diseases through the current decade. The road map addresses 20 diseases and disease groups under a single overarching framework, moving away from treating each disease in isolation, and it rests on three foundational pillars: accelerating programmatic action against the diseases themselves, intensifying cross-cutting approaches that work across several diseases at once, and reshaping the operating model and culture of the neglected tropical disease community to strengthen country ownership of the response. It sets global targets and milestones aligned with the wider Sustainable Development Goals framework rather than treating neglected tropical disease control as a stand-alone program, reflecting a deliberate shift toward integrating this work into national health systems.
