A non-governmental organization based in Geneva, Switzerland, formed in 1978 and recognized by the World Health Organization as its leading nongovernmental partner in cardiovascular disease prevention. The World Heart Federation represents more than 200 member organizations around the world and concentrates its work on promoting cardiovascular health and ensuring people have access to relevant medical information, care and treatment, maintaining official relations status with the World Health Organization on cardiovascular disease matters. It organizes World Heart Day, held annually on September 29, to inform the public that cardiovascular disease is the world's leading cause of death.
