Botswana's national malaria elimination campaign was launched on 13 September 2010 by the country's Minister of Health, Dr. John Seakgosing, with technical support from the World Health Organization, under the slogan Unite to End Malaria and the campaign brand Nyeletsa Malaria, meaning eliminate malaria in Setswana. Guided by a Malaria Strategic Plan covering 2010 to 2015 and led with the help of an appointed malaria ambassador and several public campaign champions, the program marked Botswana's shift from malaria control to full elimination after achieving a significant reduction in malaria illness and death, targeting zero local transmission and requiring cross-border cooperation with neighboring countries alongside government ministries, community leaders and donors.
