The Ethiopian Ministry of Health's national program for controlling tuberculosis and leprosy, reorganized in 2013 as a dedicated national team within the ministry's disease prevention and control directorate, coordinating its work through regional TB and HIV teams across the country. Ethiopia treats both tuberculosis and leprosy as major public health problems despite substantial progress against each over recent decades, and the program has adopted the global End TB strategy and its targets as its own, most recently through a national strategic plan developed with input from an external programme review in 2017. Its current strategic priorities include strengthening the availability and use of quality TB diagnostic services, expanding communication and social mobilization to overcome barriers to care and build demand for services, supporting adherence and early case detection at the community level, and engaging civil society and nongovernmental partners in implementing and monitoring the plan.
