Philippines National Nutrition Program

The Philippines' national nutrition program, coordinated since 1974 by the National Nutrition Council under its guiding strategic document, the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition, commonly abbreviated PPAN, now in its eleventh edition since that year. The Council advocates for nutrition investment and provides technical assistance to local governments, develops and scales nutrition interventions and services, trains local nutrition workers, and builds partnerships in support of the country's nutrition program, with PPAN serving as a six-year strategic and directional plan setting the nutrition outcomes stakeholders across the country work toward. The current edition, the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2023 to 2028, adopted a life-stage approach to nutrition, placed strong new emphasis on food security and obesity alongside undernutrition, adopted a results framework built on an explicit theory of change, and recognized the importance of changing nutrition-related behavior directly.
